Sony and Marvel Reach Spider-Man Deal
Just as we had all hoped, Marvel Studios regained has some access to its beloved wall-crawler, Spider-Man. While some are overjoyed to hear this news, let’s not lose our heads. Marvel Studios President and architect behind Marvel’s mega-franchise, Kevin Feige, will co-produce the next Spider-Man film, which can’t hurt. Although, according to the press release, Sony Pictures Entertainment retains final creative control of Spider-Man films. Any expectations of a huge shift in the style or quality of future Spider-Man movies may best be limited, if not discarded.
It is also important to note that in the press release, Doug Belgrad, president, Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group mentions Peter Parker by name. This doesn’t necessarily prove or disprove that Peter Parker will remain as Spider-Man for upcoming films, but it does not support speculation that Miles Morales will leap to the silver screen in 2017. It is the opinion of this fan that the character is worthy of his own movie(s). However, to drop this relatively new, unfamiliar character on general audiences now would likely cause confusion.
